Control cables repair

Control cables repair

(OP)
Hello

We have several outside control cables and ct cables that were damaged by small animals. They are too long to simply replace them all. What are your procedures and criteria to fix these cables? I would like to fix them with heat shrink or 3M tape and perform a megger if the outer sheath is affected and not the insulation. If the cable insulation is affected , I would replace them. Any suggestion?

Thanks

RE: Control cables repair

What voltage? Tell us a little more about the cables. What kind of signals are they carrying? How long are they?

RE: Control cables repair

If the conductors are cut, normally, for the control cables the practice is to use the junction box.

In your case, since the animals damaged, I presume it is only the insulation damage. If it is a small portion, using the heat shrink sleeves may be a good idea. Again it depends on what is the system involved?

If it is serving some oil and gas facilities, better replace the damaged cable.
If it is for some domestic or commercial use, repair it.

So the discretion varies.
