CEL-equation of state for fluid flow application

CEL-equation of state for fluid flow application

(OP)
Dear all,

I am using the Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL) method available in Abaqus in order to study the FSI of a morphing structure with the air flow.

This method solves the Navier Stokes equations by means of the material properties given by the equation of states (EOS). The EOS available are the Us-Up, JWL, and the ideal gas equation. Now, having a look at the few tutorials and examples you can find online, for fluid flow problems, it is always suggested to use the Us-Up EOS, which is usually used only for liquids. As inputs, it require speed of sound in fluid and density. While for gas, so air included, it is suggested to use the IG EOS.

I get much better results if I use the Us-Up for the air, while very different results if I use the IG EOS.

Therefore, I'm asking, how wrong it is if I use the air properties for the Us-Up EOS?

Thank you very much
Gaetano
