Bonded Topping Horiz and Vert Surfaces

Bonded Topping Horiz and Vert Surfaces

I'm hydroblasting a portion of concrete slab and wall to apply a Sika 123 or 122 topping. I'm also providing a WWM reinforcing. I've normally secured the mesh to the concrete using Hilti PAF. Does anyone have an alternative method of securing the WWM in place?

RE: Bonded Topping Horiz and Vert Surfaces

Is the intent to just hold it in place during application of the Sika topping or are you looking for interface shear transfer with your fastening scheme?

RE: Bonded Topping Horiz and Vert Surfaces

First let me say that I am a pessimist when it comes to accurately holding WWF in an accurate location during concrete placement - both vertically and horizontally.

I have no confidence that it can be held in place vertically in a horizontal pour unless you intend it to end up at the bottom of the pour. We typically require chairs for this purpose, but somehow the WWF always gets smashed into the subgrade in the case of slabs on grade.

If you want to maintain horizontal position in a horizontal pour, you could simply install nails or screws into the concrete in some rectangular pattern to act as vertical "pegs" to keep it from sliding around.

The WWF is to provide some reinforcing and the fasteners are to hold it into place. The WWF is in flat sheets and is sufficiently stiff to keep it from moving around. Also looking at Trufast spikes as an alternative to securing the WWF. I've used the Sika product before and it works really well.

I would say concrete nails to keep it from sliding around and some form of chair to keep it off of the surface would be the only alternative I can come up with.

Thanks J... I was going to use a spacer, then WWF, then washer, then Trufast spike... a matter of locating any existing rebar...
