Reflected Inertia of Slide Table Driven by Rack & Pinion
Reflected Inertia of Slide Table Driven by Rack & Pinion
(OP)
How do you calculate the reflected inertia for a slide table driven by a rack and pinion? Is it similar to a ball screw drive, replacing the lead of the ball screw with the pitch circumference of the pinion?

RE: Reflected Inertia of Slide Table Driven by Rack & Pinion
Wr^2
Jpinion = ------
2g
J = Inertia (lb-in-sec^2)
W = weight of pinion (lbs)
r = pinion radius (in.)
g = gravity (386 in/sec^2)
To calculate the Inertia of the load:
Wr^2
Jload = -------
g
J = Inertia (lb-in-sec^2)
W = weight of load (lbs)
r = pinion radius (in.)
g = gravity (386 in/sec^2)
