section in multiple locations
section in multiple locations
(OP)
I have an assembly that has 3 instances in different locations that are a common configuration. In some cases, just saying "3X" under section view would work, as long as it's obvious where the 3 instances are. What about when it's not so obvious? I don't think you can apply 3 cutting plane lines with the same letters, can you? Or do I draw a cutting plane line at each location, apply different letters, and at the section view state (e.g.), SECTION A-A, SECTION B-B, SECTION C-C?

Other then that, here is the picture from long ago and far away. Looks pretty self-explanatory.

I believe similar suggestion was already made for having several identical detail views before: http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=372706

Exactly. So identifying Section A-A as "Section A-A" is less ambiguous.
You could add number of places to the section view, so person working with the drawing will know what to look for:
"Section A-A, 3 Places -- That means I have to look for 3 places that have section lines and letters "A"

I.e. would all 3 sections look exactly the same, or they'd look different but the detail you want to dimension is the same?
Unless they are truely identical in every aspect I'd be very wary about repeating the cutting planes. Maybe if you then crop the subsequent cross section view to only show the detail of interest might still be OK but still could be a bit confusing.
