user defined element topology in abaqus

user defined element topology in abaqus

(OP)
Dear all,
I'm trying to create a 3D mesh in abaqus using hex element with non-uniformly spaced interpolation nodes.(e.g. Gauss-Lobatto interpolation points) However, there are no such element topology in element library. I've read the "User subroutine to define an element" chapter in user guide. But it does not detail how to insert interpolation points between existing vertices or edge points and how to define the new generated element as a new element type. Have any one tried to generate user defined element type in abaqus and use this type to mesh 3D domain? How does that work out?
Thanks!
