Size check valve

Size check valve

Size check valve

(OP)
Hi valve experts,

I have a system with a high turndown ratio. We will use globe check and stop check valves in a couple of locations. I can find very little literature on how to size these check valves to ensure that they are fully open, or at the very least acceptably open, at low flow rates. The most comprehensive data seem to be in the back of some of the Flowserve Edward catalogues. I'm not entirely sure I trust the performance graphs provided by Flowserve though. Some of the curves seem to vary with valve size with little pattern. Even two valves of the same size, where one is cast and the other forged, can have a totally different performance curve. Can anyone recommend any decent data sources?

RE: Size check valve

men8th.it has been my experience over more than fifty years that the Check Valve in a line is line size (regardless of the lines purpose). If your line is properly sized then the valves should also be properly sized.
You do not say what your line size is so I will choose a size as an example:If you have a 6" line then the Check Valve and the Stop Valve (Gate, Butterfly, Plug, Ball, etc) should also be 6".

Sometimes its possible to do all the right things and still get bad results

RE: Size check valve

General information I have indicates tilting disk check valves are the preference for low dp applications.
