A general question on Abaqus Documentation
A general question on Abaqus Documentation
(OP)
Hi All,
I don't know whether it is appropriate to post this but I'll go ahead .
I have started reading Abaqus User's Manual, strictly on a "as and when needed".
If I have seen the topic to be read, on some videos or I have hands-on experience with, then the user's manual is very informative.
But on other hand, if I'm looking at a topic without any prior introduction, either through video or a partial hands-on experience, then the description
in user manual is very verbose and heavy.
Do other users have similar experience? If yes then what would be your advice in overcoming this problem

Nice advise.
Please send me the link to Simulia website.I have an account but I cannot find the location of videos.
Thanks

you can select simulia-abaqus in applications
You re welcome I hope it will help you

RE: A general question on Abaqus Documentation
I am trying to verify the compression behaviour of the concrete material that I am going to use in my CDP model. I captured the stress/strain curve from Abaqus by applying a downward (compressive) displacement in a simulated standard cube compression test. It does not match with compression behaviour which I defined in the material module. It keeps increasing as the strain increases without any degradation which seems weird. Below you could find the results.
Any help is highly appreciated.
Thanks,

Too bad because the above looks like a good source for learning Abaqus!
RE: A general question on Abaqus Documentation
They are well done and easier to understand than the manual.
Hope you'll find another way...i'll look after too
RE: A general question on Abaqus Documentation
Trying to get familiar with Abaqus. Have made some progress though but lots of ways to go before I am comfortable.
Some quick questions: Is there anything analogous to Nastran's Quick Reference Guide in Abaqus Documentation?
Since http://academy.3ds.com/learning-materials/ is only accessible for Academic users, any good self paced tutorials, preferably free ones?
Also, in Assembly module, what is the difference between Independent & Dependent (mesh on part) instances?
I've registered on 3DS/Simulia Learning Community, where can I find the forum?
Thanks in advance.

I generally just consult the Abaqus Users guide for any problems/queries. Most features are well documented.
RE: A general question on Abaqus Documentation
I have another question. If I partition a part for meshing operations and if I realize that some of my partitions are no good. Is there anyway, I can delete the existing partitions without having to recreate the geometry from scratch? Like may be a stitching operation.
In my case, I am trying to analyze a plate with a hole (shell analysis) and I've created the geometry with in Abaqus and not imported them.
Also how does the "Steps" feature work in Abaqus? An Initial Step is generated by default and we create additional steps for load application.
I need to start consulting the Documentation as when I find time.
RE: A general question on Abaqus Documentation
You should go through the "Getting Started with Abaqus" guides in the documentation. They are brief and include several tutorials that explain this stuff.

RE: A general question on Abaqus Documentation
I did discover how to delete partitions without having to recreate the part. Like Dave has mentioned, I deleted them via Features in Part Model Tree.
Pdiculous963, I will have to try your suggestions.
BTW, I find meshing in Abaqus to be cumbersome currently. I cannot delete Native elements...can't split an existing quad element in two by the middle (I could only find the option of splitting a quad in to a Tria), cannot combine two Quad elements to make one. Probably there are ways to do the above which I haven't figured out yet. Currently, I am being forced to delete the mesh regions where I want more refinement and recreate them using more edge seeding etc.
Anyways, are there any good tutorials on meshing & advanced meshing, especially structured meshing using Abaqus?
Also, is there an utility to check on the value of total load applied to the model? If I have applied a uniform shell edge load of lbs/in, I need to know how much total load Abaqus is considering.
Also, is there any way to make Abaqus generate different analysis files in directory which model is saved rather than working directory?
