Mechanical Property Variations in Ti grade HSLA coils

Mechanical Property Variations in Ti grade HSLA coils

(OP)
Hey all,

Our hot mill has been having trouble getting consistent yield and tensile values between the heads and tails of Ti grade HSLAs. To say it a little differently, the head of the coil will exhibit different mechanical properties than the tail, resulting in some of the coil meeting the spec and some of it not.

We believe this is related to the slab/coil's thermal history, but not exactly sure on which part would matter the most. We're going to consider time and temperature spent in tunnel/reheat furnace (preceding hotmill), induction heaters (preceding hot mill), slab speed out of the hot mill rolls, finishing temp out of the hot mill, and coiling temp.

Any ideas on how to narrow this down a little bit? Anyone have any problems similar to this one?

Thanks so much,

Ikarise
