Rollover Suggestion?

Rollover Suggestion?

Rollover Suggestion?

(OP)
This post is the sequel to the post "Hurricane Ties at 45-Degree Angle"

RE: The sketch at "Hurricane Ties at 45-Degree Angle"

Any suggestions to prevent rollover for the wood purlins on wood top plates?

I've used Simpson NCA and TB bridging in shallower end-wall situations, 45-degrees concerns me more.

I've considered: 1) solid blocking with necessary nailing; 2) a steel angle, similar to Simpson HGA10...

Any other suggestions?

Thank you all!

RE: Rollover Suggestion?

Solid blocking without the steel angle. If ventilation is a concern, block every second space or use v-notches etc in the blocking.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.

RE: Rollover Suggestion?

Agree. They're already going to have the material there just going to waste, might as well use it for blocking.

RE: Rollover Suggestion?

Blocking every other space, double the nailing into the blocking.

Then...

Laugh on the inside that most engineers aren't considering that.

Cry that Architects get to design wood structures without understanding load paths like this.

Sleep well at night knowing you are doing the right thing.

Wait for the code officials to get a seminar that explains this type of detailing.

Watch your phone light up with calls because you're the only engineer that considers load path.
