I am trying to get a feel for what the low temperature (-15 Deg C / 5 Deg F) Charpy V notch energy for 1038-1045 steel when quench and tempered to 30-32 HRc.

I have conducted Charpy impact testing to normalized 1045 before and achieved only 6-7 J @ -15 Deg C. Will Quench and Tempering to 30-32 HRc get me up to 25-30 J @ -15 deg C?

Appreciate any insight you can offer.

RE: Charpy verses Hardness in 0.38 - 0.45% C steel

The 0.45% carbon content will keep your CVN impact energy values on the lower end. I would expect more like 18 to 20 J at -15 deg C for quenched and tempered 1045 steel. If you were to fully temper the 1045, you probably would reach the values you stated.
