ASME STS -1 QUESTION

ASME STS -1 QUESTION

ASME STS -1 QUESTION

(OP)
HI

I AM USING ASME STS-1 2011 CODE FOR THE DESIGN OF 50M STEEL CHIMNEY, WHILE CALCULATING THE DESIGN WIND FORCE AS PER
EQN 4.2

WZ = ( CF * qZ*d)/(12(1+6.8iZ))

WZ = ( 0.653 * 34.816 * 8)/ (12(1+(6.8*0.1712))) = 6.99 LBS/FT

WHICH IS VERY LESS COMPARED TO THEIR EXAMPLE CALCULATION IN APPENDIX -E.

PLZ CLARIFY HOW THE WIND FORCE LBS/FT IS COMING VERY LESS. I AM MISSING ANYTHING IN CALCULATION?

THANKS

RE: ASME STS -1 QUESTION

I don't have that standard. But the "12" factor suggests that maybe d is supposed to be in inches rather than feet?

thanks
