Hello,

I am working on a Pile-Cap design for 5 pile group. Since the pile cap is not loaded concentrically, I have modeled this using SAP2000. For the design of pile cap, I need to obtain the 2 way shear forces or stress from the results. I understand that V13 and V23 are results for one way shear along their respective directions. What do I use for two-way shear?

I don't use SAP--I use RISA. But I think my answer will apply to SAP. The shear you are getting around each pile in your results is two-way shear. The shear values you get away from the piles is one way shear.

I don't believe that SAP, SAFE, or any of the common shell/plate slab FEM programs is actually capable of outputting shear stress directly as FEM output. Rather, they figure out the pile/column reactions and perform code based shear stress checks just as you would do by hand. And, to my knowledge, SAP doesn't even do that.

In summary: if you're stuck with SAP as your modelling tool, I think that you'll need to pull out your reactions and post process the punching shear by hand/spreadsheet/decon software.
