Macro - History Free Mode

Macro - History Free Mode

Macro - History Free Mode

(OP)
Hi Everyone,
I'm wondering if its possible to create a macro or journal that will switch every component in an assembly including the top level assembly to 'History Free Mode" and also back to 'History mode".

Reason:
Forgetting the discussion of weather the design process of these assemblies are correct or not, I have a lot of assemblies that were created with every component containing a dumb body. I want to modify the assembly (every part) from the top level with synchronous modelling (I.E. move face and box select all parts/components). I can't seam to do this from the top level without activating every component in the assembly and changing it to "history free mode". This defeats the purpose as when I spend time activating a part to change to history free mode I may as well just perform a move face at that point.

Its not important for these assemblies to contain any history and can remain as a dumb bodies.
If possible this would save me hours of work.
My ideal process for modifying these assemblies would be to
- open assembly, click macro to convert every component to history free mode
- perform synchronous modelling
- click macro to convert every component back to history mode
- Save the assembly and all child components.

Is this possible (I have no visual basic skills so was hoping this could be done with a macro/journal)
Thanks

I wouldn't recommend macros for anything.

And a journal is a VB program, so you'll need some VB skills.

Dive in. It's not all that difficult.
