Crack near a window

Crack near a window

Crack near a window

(OP)
I'm sorry but I shall be happy if anyone can help me.

IS it true, that if there is a crack near a window, then structurally, the length of the crack = actual length of the crack + length of the diagonal of the window.

I'm not sure, if / how this is true?

RE: Crack near a window

I suppose you could construe that, but I would only go there if the crack along the same diagonal was present on both sides of the window. Otherwise, no.

If I might ask, why is this an issue?

RE: Crack near a window

Seems to me that the material as well would make a difference. Concrete with rebar around the window opening would count more to the "no" side. Basic framed wood wall would be more to the "yes".

Please remember: we're not all guys!

msquared48;

Why do you say "yes" if the crack is along the same diagonal was present on both sides of the window?

I'm not able to understand why you say "yes"?

RE: Crack near a window

Because if the crack presents itself on both sides of the window, then the crack goes through the window.

If it is only evident at one side of the window, then it stops at the window.

It's that simple.

RE: Crack near a window

Why is the apparent crack length of concern as opposed to the actual crack length?
