Dear Sir,

I try to find out about criteria of selection method for testing leak , could every one tell me about when we select helium test method
for tube of exchanger?

RE: Helium test for tube exchanger

People rarely He leak test heat exchangers, often they use SF6 or similar gasses.
You can reach out service company (such as Conco) and ask them about leak testing.

RE: Helium test for tube exchanger

Helium Leak Test is commonly done to check tube-tubesheet joints for leaks. We only perform it when the customer requires in their specification. Usually it is for high purity processes that cannot handle any contamination, but we see it time to time in other services.

RE: Helium test for tube exchanger

Yes, the acid cooler guys do He.
You can do it on tube-to-tubesheet joints, but entire HX (especially in service) tend to have way too many leaks to make He practical as your first leak test. Even if there is a He test requirement people often test with something less sensitive first, fix the big leaks and the re-test.

RE: Helium test for tube exchanger

I use Helium leak test for tantalum HXers. Although as EdStainless mentioned, we actually do a low pressure air test on tube-TS joints during fab (between roller expansion and seal welding). The helium test is typically the last test we do.

songkarn, it really would depend on the materials used and design requirements

RE: Helium test for tube exchanger

I have used He test in nuclear pressure vessels. I think it is very difficult in heat enchangers. This test requires long waiting times.
