Reverse insert BOM to CatiaV5

Reverse insert BOM to CatiaV5

Reverse insert BOM to CatiaV5

Hello All!

I was wondering if there was a way to...

1) Export a Bill Of Materials from catia
2) Realized something was wrong and fix everything in excel
3) Reverse insert the properties back into Catia

Im sorry in advance if I sound like a master of the obvious (because it would be plastered on every forum already) if it cannot be done! LOL

RE: Reverse insert BOM to CatiaV5

Are you talking about exporting a BOM from a CATDrawing? of the Parts List of a CATProduct?

If it's the former, just use a script (do a search) to export the table. Modify it in Excel. Then use the function in CATIA to import a csv file as a table into a drawing.

If you messed up with components why not to fix them and update a BOM? Editing BOM in Excel won't fix components properties.

Actually what I want is to fill out the properties of a whole assy in excel then import the excel sheet into the 3-d model! How cool would that be if you didnt have to load the properties of each individual catpart to fill out added properties!!!!!!

Export a BOM, fill out all blank/missing/or wrong properties then force back into Catia part/Product. It would be much easier in my mind, faster too!

I figured it would be nothing more than a wish LOL

I think it would have to be more of a Macro that side loaded every part in your product in a table format where you could just run down in a list format, updating the part properties. Something that looked like excel but not, maybe I shouldn't have used excel as an example but I picture the macro looking like that?

RE: Reverse insert BOM to CatiaV5

Hi,

It can be done, but you have to establish an exact order of how properties will be first exported, then imported back.

I suppose also it will take a little time to create those two macros (I believe there will be two, first one to export properties, then update the file manually, then second macro to import properties).

Yeah It does sound like a whole lot of work, but seems like it would save a huge amount of time loading each and every part property individually though? I have a lot of my library items already with properties loaded in them, but 90 percent of the time they change due to unitized jobs. A lot of the items need to have a product number, depending on what unit they end up in, changed over... Sometimes there can be 100 units in the job.

If my rambling makes any sense lol

What about Generating a Design Table on the Assembly from existing Parameters? The "Bubble Up" visibility of parameters through their instance should allow them all to be visible.

If you filter the selection list, in the Design Table definition dialog, by the 'User Parameters' filter it will give you a listing of those. You can then add them to a design table. Once added to the design table, you could modify them directly through Excel, update the model to the default configuration to push the data, then delete the design table from the assembly.

The Excel sheet certainly wouldn't be formatted like a BOM table, but it also doesn't require the development time of a scripted solution.
