(OP)
Had a Toshiba Q9 VFD faceplate melt inside an RTU.
Only the keypad and faceplate damaged. Any thoughts?
Toshiba said they gad never seen this and said looked like a hairdryer was pointed at it.
Pretty thick plastic for a external heat source to affect.
We placed a HOBO in for a week and saw no fluctuations.

RE: Had a Toshiba Q9 VFD faceplate melt

I've seen that on a Siemens VFD before, turned out to be a bent pin on the ribbon cable for the display unit. It happened to be the +24VDC pin that bent to touch something else that must have been grounded. But because that power supply was current limiting, it just kept feeding the fault without tripping until the heat damaged the display.
