UBC references don't make sense

UBC references don't make sense

UBC references don't make sense

(OP)
Im reading through the 1967 UBC Chapter 25. Page 161 reads:

"MACHINE STRESS-RATED LUMBER, is lumber which has been individually pretested by an approved nondestructive mechanical means supplemented by visual grading as required in UBC Standard No. 25-1-67, Section 25.113 ...."

Where on earth is Standard number 25-1-67 and Section 25.113? Are these in another document called UBS Standard? because I sure can't find them in the 1967 UBC. The sections aren't even labelled like that. They're more like Sec. 2503, Sec.2504 etc.

RE: UBC references don't make sense

The old UBC standards are similar to the current ASTM standards.

RE: UBC references don't make sense

Yes there was a whole set of "standards" that ICBO put out - usually in the back of each code. Attached is an example table of contents of the UBC 97 standards which were published as the third volume of the three volume code book.

In 1967 they may have been published as a separate set of documents rather than in the back of the code book....not sure.

RE: UBC references don't make sense

Agree with JAE....the referenced material was typically provided as an appendix or supplement. The UBC was divided into at least two volumes and typically three for the referenced material.
