Chinese steel section properties

Chinese steel section properties

I'm working on to additions to a project in the USA that has steel shapes from China. I see shapes designations like HN500, HN446, HM440. I'm looking for a website that will give me section properties for the Chinese steel. I would like full properties such as A, Ix, Sx, Rx, etc. Any assistance would be appreciated.

RE: Chinese steel section properties

You may find some useful info in one of my former threads: Link. Stuff I learned:

1) Size proportions can be quite different.
2) Quality control can be quite different.
3) Where Fy is different, b/t ratios change which apparently has something to do with why proportions are different.

For your sake, I hope that you're working with US shapes rolled in china rather than true Chinese shapes. It was pretty painful getting it all sorted.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.

Unfortunately they are true Chinese shapes. The drawings show a mix of traditional USA wide flanges and Chinese shapes. My new structure will be supported on both so I need to check capacities of each. That is why I need section properties of Chinese shapes.

The drawings state the Chinese steel is ASTM 992.

RE: Chinese steel section properties

what software are you using? Staad has Chinese properties. Risa probably has it also

Thanks for the link. Being from the slide rule era you appreciate a good printout of the document. Unfortunately the PDF is a no-print documents. Thanks anyway.

I don't use STAAD or RISA. I use Bentley RAM Elements. I did not see Chinese shapes in my data base.

RE: Chinese steel section properties

Use software to take an image of the pdf, then print it. Sometimes these are a little fuzzy, but they work.

That's what I ended up doing.

Thanks.
