Hello Friends
Could someone please elborate on the corrosion value to be considered for tubesheet faces of a S&T heat exchanger. Below clause from TEMA
RCB-1.513TUBESHEETSTubesheetsaretohavethecorrosionallowanceon eachsidewiththeprovisionthat,onthegroovedsideofagroovedtubesheet,thedepthofthegasketedgroovemaybeconsideredasavailableforcorrosionallowance.
Thanks in advance
Regards
Shanamo

RE: Hello Friends Could someone pleas

Shanamo, very much depends on the tubesheet material and the service. 1/8" is common for carbon steel.

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

RE: Hello Friends Could someone pleas

RCB-1.513 means that you must add both the shellside and tubeside corrosion allowances to the code required thickness. The extra provision for tubeside corrosion allowance means that you take the maximum of either the tubeside corrosion allowance, or the groove depth.

So, your tubesheet thickness should be:
t-tubesheet = (Code req'd thickness) + (CA-shellside) + max([CA-tubeside] , [tubeside groove depth])

Thanks gentlemen for your quick responses .
Howeve I think that I could not make myself clear on the issue. I meant to ask whether ca should be added to gasket groove as well once we get the calculated tubesheet thickness. I understand that groove depth is deducted by software while computing the tubesheet thickness.
Thanks
Shanamo

RE: Hello Friends Could someone pleas

Shanamo, no, see both marty007's post above and TEMA RCB-1.513.

Mike

It's clear to me now. Thank you friends.
Have a lovely day ahead!

@shanamo: As far as groove depth is concerned, you take the greater of tube side C.A or future machining allowance for groove depth.
