Hydrostatic test of A106 Gr.B Pipes

Hydrostatic test of A106 Gr.B Pipes

Hydrostatic test of A106 Gr.B Pipes

(OP)
During the hydrostatic testing of A106 Gr.B pipes, is it possible to check along the length of the pipe during hydrostatic testing or some portion from the ends can not be tested due to plug insertion etc.?
Thank you.

RE: Hydrostatic test of A106 Gr.B Pipes

Pipe may be hydrostatic tested in the factory by the manufacturer. Purchaser may possibly specify factory NDE in lieu of hydrostatic test or neither. Inspection test pressures produce a stress in the pipe wall equal to 60% of specified minimum yield strength (SMYS) at room temperature. Pressure is maintained for not less than 5 seconds. Monitoring of the hydrostatic testing is accomplished by observation of the pressure.

The piping code sets the requirements for hydrostatic testing in the field.

What are you trying to accomplish?

RE: Hydrostatic test of A106 Gr.B Pipes

Are you talking about a mill test?

They are pretty brutal but normally they don't use internal plugs for that very reason, but press seals at the end. You normally only get 10 seconds or less per test so no you don't see much and there is water everywhere.

Is that what you mean?

Thank you for your interest. I am looking for the mill hydrostatic test.
Let me repeat the question; during the hydrostatic testing of A106 Gr.B pipes at mill, is it possible to check along the length of the pipe?

RE: Hydrostatic test of A106 Gr.B Pipes

Yes, but you don't get very long - 5 to 10 secs max and there is a LOT of water flowing about.

You often don't get good access all the way around. Some mills do it vertically so unless you're 12m tall you won't see anything.

What exactly are you trying to achieve?
