Slab depth reduction in wash rooms, balconies

Slab depth reduction in wash rooms, balconies

(OP)
Hi,
I have a question regrading the reduction of depth of slabs at wash rooms or balconies. I would like to know the criteria for deciding whether the edge of the slab panel that start to reduce in height ( like in wash rooms) is continues or discontinuos? Assume that the depth of slab in a bed room is 150mm and the depth is 125mm in the attached bathroom of that room. In this case do we always need to provide a beam at the edge where depth of the slab starts to reduce and how do we decide whether that edge of slab is continuous or discontinuos? Thank you

RE: Slab depth reduction in wash rooms, balconies

There is no reason to consider a slab discontinuous just because it has a setdown. But you need to design the slab with the change of depth in mind.
