dimensioning a line

dimensioning a line

dimensioning a line

(OP)
OK guys thanks for the tip on pro/desktop i did get it for free and its ok.  Like I said before I am use to AutoCAD and when you are drawing lets say a 2d line you can enter in the dimension, instead of draging to a certain length cause that is kinda in acurate.  I cant figure out how to do that in pro/desktop.  Any ideas?  Also same thing on say a circle, how can i input a number as say the radius or diameter say i want a circle of diameter 4 inches?

RE: dimensioning a line

I don't remember how it's made but I know the tutorials that come with the program are very good for starting. I'm sure you'll find examples enough

RE: dimensioning a line

Question: Are you trying to draw (sketch) in the drawing mode or create in the 3D model mode?  What version of ProE are you using?

The circle, line, etc. can be sketched in drawing mode and then selected with the mouse to modify or stretch/drag it to another size.  If you dimension the feature the dimension updates along with it as it is modified. That's the beauty of ProE. Just remember that the sketched features are not part of the 3D model and will have to be related to the view they are sketched in or when the view is moved these features will not move with it.

If you are creating in the 3D model, make it to any size then modify it and regenerate it to update the model.

RE: dimensioning a line

Create a short line add a dimension by clicking on the line then double click it to change the value to what you want. It's useful to not have to specify the exact length as it's created because it's easy to change.
