Surface tangent to two faces

Surface tangent to two faces

Surface tangent to two faces

(OP)
Hello,
I have problem with create surface tangent to two other faces.
Is it possible in NX create surface tangent to two faces (surfaces) without define curve onto the faces?
I found operation like Sweep-Section-linear but in this cases I can only choose one face. I want to choose two faces and for example spine curve. Catia has tool for create this tangent surface.
Green surface is a surface that I need create.
Regards
Marcin

RE: Surface tangent to two faces

Marcin,

When asking a question, please provide the version of NX you're using - it helps narrow down the possible answers as well as give us an idea of what commands you may have available to you. For example, I'm stuck on NX9 and there might be newer solutions to your issue in NX10 to which I've yet to be exposed.

That I can think of, there isn't a solution similar to the one you're used to using in CATIA. I could be mistaken though.

I would recommend using a Through Curves (TC) or Through Curve Mesh (TCM). TC will only focus on the sections, but you can specify more than 2 if desired and it allows for continuity control up to G2 (curvature). TCM allows for more than 2 sections and adds cross strings (essentially guides) as well as continuity control up to G2. See the Help Docs for a more thorough description (bring up the dialog box and click on Help on Context to get right to the command you're wanting to know about).

Another option would be Studio Surface if you have the proper licensing. Studio Surface is very similar to TCM but allows you more flexibility with the number of required input curves as well as other options that are outlined in the Help Docs.

Some things to note about surfacing in NX:
  1. Use quality curves. NX is more or less a garbage in, garbage out when it comes to surfaces. If your curves are garbage, your surfaces will also be garbage.
  2. More curves do not always equate to better surfaces. Be careful adding more curves than you may need. Additional curves allow for better control of the resulting surface shape - nothing more. See #1 above as well.
  3. Cross curves MUST have the continuity you wish to apply to the sections; section curves MUST have the continuity you wish to apply to the cross curves. If they do not, you will NOT be able to apply continuity constraints to surfaces.

Hello,

Thank You for very long answer.
I use NX 10.
I have worked in this software almost ten years and know solution You describe.
But maybe is the faster way to do it.
I attach prt file. I want to create tangent surface for two object. Surface must have straight section.
In this cases in order to have exact result I must create many sections. It’s bad solution if I have a long objects because I must create for example 50 line.
Do You have idea how to do it?

RE: Surface tangent to two faces

Have you tried using "Bridge" surface? it was really improved on the last few versions (I think on 8.5 or 9.0).
It is not as "stable" as through curves, or through curve mesh, but it's quite easy for use.
You can also try studio surface, which I see as a smart interpertation of through curve mesh.
