Blow Molding with Compressed Air (Combustion prevention)

Blow Molding with Compressed Air (Combustion prevention)

I am blow molding thermoplastics using compressed air.  I am packing out the material at about 150psi.  I ran into a fire at the exhaust needle, I think because of the compressed air at the high pressure.  How can I prevent this from happening again, when I know that I cannot decrease the pressure without degrading the quality of the part?

RE: Blow Molding with Compressed Air (Combustion prevention)

I have some limited experience with injection molding and it seems to me that the properties of your thermoplastic have a lot to do with this process.  There are critical temperatures and pressures associated with various plastics and it is important to know the flash points of your materials.

I believe that the Diesel Effect is created from contaminates in the Compressed Air or contaminates in the mold itself not from the thermoplastic being molded.  How do I prevent this from occurring?  What steps must be taken to prevent this?
