Hi,

I want to study the dynamic response of a structure subjects to a sine wave acceleration signal.
For that, I will perform an harmonic FEA simulation.

To simplify, let's say that the structure is a column fixed on the ground, and that the ground is moving.

To apply the loads, I am thinking about two possibilities:

1) Impose a displacement to the attachment point of the column (the displacement equivalent to the acceleration load)
2) Fixed the base and apply an acceleration field to the model

Which approach is the best?
Are they equivalent?
...I would say that they are equivalent, except that approach 1 gives the absolute displacement and 2 gives displacement relative to the ground).
