I need to mirror a part in another part in NX (non associative)

I need to mirror a part in another part in NX (non associative)

I need to mirror a part in another part in NX (non associative)

(OP)
I am on NX 10.0.3.x

I have a part that is comprised of splines and studio surfaces (no solid bodies). Let's call that orig.

I need to create a new sibling part (called mirrored) that has the exact same geometry but mirrored over a plane (a datum plane perhaps).

The relationships is to be non associative and the position/orientation of orig and mirrored can be non zero/identity.

How do I go about doing this?

Thank You.

Use the wave link functionality for this...You can mirror and create it non-associative and position independent.

Everything I have tried up to this point has either created a "mirrored" feature or features that are copies of other features but different feature types. I also loose the names of the features which are needed because of custom software that depends on the names.

We are still investigating. I don't think I tried wavelinking yet. Can you provide a step by step guide of what I need to do in order to try the wavelinking path?

RE: I need to mirror a part in another part in NX (non associative)

No need to make it overly difficult.

Take orig, mirror using the Transform command (you'll have to define the plane or line to reference) and do a save as and name it mirror_orig.prt. Now you have 2 independent NX parts.

I need the mirrored objects to be the same exact feature types as the original. Even if it were possible to mirror a feature one feature at a time, that would be acceptable.

RE: I need to mirror a part in another part in NX (non associative)

They are the exact same feature types if you Transform them - you aren't changing anything, you're simply moving it (if you use Move) or copying it (if you use Copy) within the Transform command. Without knowing the details of your splines and surfaces, I'd recommend using Copy and then deleting the originals (if the splines and surfaces are parametric) - if they have no parameters, then use Move. Not sure what else I can say to make this any easier - you shouldn't have any issues with this unless you're leaving out some details about what you require or are expecting as a result.

RE: I need to mirror a part in another part in NX (non associative)

HI KHERMAN,
I don think we can mirror a property of any feature with parameters ON.
Ex: If a spline has points x30 y10 z12 we cant do a mirror of it as x-30 y-10 or z-12.
With any of the ways its not possible.
However you can mirror your CYS DATUM itself for the new part. So that when assembled in assembly with Associative Origin, you will have same part positioned in orig and mirror positions.

HOPE YOU GO IT.
Let me know if it was do able..
