geotextile?

geotextile?

geotextile?

(OP)
I have seen placing geo textiles not only behind gabions but also underneath them. What is the purpose of placing geo textiles underneath gabions?

RE: geotextile?

its the same reason as placing it behind them. placing directly on pluf mud would not be recommended with or without geotextile

@ cvg,

Same reason means? for filtration?

RE: geotextile?

yes, filtering is the main reason

RE: geotextile?

I would have said separation rather than filtering.

RE: geotextile?

well, if you were to place it on the mud in that figure, than you would want a separation fabric. otherwise it is for filtration

RE: geotextile?

For me, it is to prevent finer material that would be placed behind the open rock fill in the gabion or that would be below the gabion from being washed into (via seepage in the material behind or upward seepage into). Call it separation/call it filtration (filter) - guess it acts, really as both.
