RT inside boiler

RT inside boiler

RT inside boiler

(OP)
Hi all,

is their any restriction to conduct RT inside the boiler as per ASME sec I ? if it is yes please provide the reference.

RE: RT inside boiler

Why do you think the location of the RT (Xray testing, right?) would be different or restricted? Obviously, the physical position of the weld is physically restricting, but is there some limit for RT that would change how you take the Xray or position the source and detector?

RE: RT inside boiler

There are no restrictions in BPV I for RT. You do have physical as well as safety restrictions, which must be followed under a radiation safety plan.

RE: RT inside boiler

mandmm,
The only requirements will be as per ASME V Article 2 (other than those stated above).
Due to the close proximity of tubes and lack of access to these tubes the SFD/FFD can sometimes be less than normal and in some cases this can lead to issues with Ug ( geometric unsharpness).
Your RT contractor should be well aware of the code requirements.
Cheers,
DD

Dear all

Thanks

RE: RT inside boiler

mandmm,
As metengr has stated the only requirement is a radiation safety plan (or whatever it is called wherever your location).
Codes do not deal in health and safety - they give minimum / maximum requirements but how you achieve those is up to you.
Yes, it can be dangerous performing RT inside boilers ( I hate to think how many I have crawled around in) but if all the safety requirements are complied with then it should be quite safe,
Regards,
DD

RE: RT inside boiler

RT that is not required by a Code may also be performed. The acceptance requirements shall be agreed upon; they need not be in accordance with Code acceptance requirements.

RE: RT inside boiler

Well there is no such restrictions in ASME Sec I.
When you really have to carryout RT of your job. You will have to get access from both sides. Inside and Outside for Film setting and for Source Setting.
