Deflection Criteria in RISA3D

Deflection Criteria in RISA3D

From thread1419-377986: Deflection Design Rules

If there are no deflection design rules in RISA3D GUI, can we bypass this by using file input and the following tag?

[.DEFLECTION_RULES] <1>
"Typical" -1.000000 240.000000 -1.000000 360.000000 -1.000000 240.000000 -1 -1.000000 360.000000 -1 -1.000000 360.000000;
[.END_DEFLECTION_RULES]

Appendix D in the help file lists all sorts of criteria we can apply to this tag. Will it incorporate into the design rules to give design suggestions accounting for a maximum deflection established in the input file?

RE: Deflection Criteria in RISA3D

The design rules section is shared information between RISA-3D and RISAFloor. So, what you're seeing in the input file is information that will be used in RISAFloor for deflection optimization and such.

The current version of RISA-3D (14.0) will not do any deflection code check or optimization regardless of whether this information exists in the input file.

JoshPlum, Thanks for the info. I will use the sorting tools available in the spreadsheets to optimize my deflection design.

RE: Deflection Criteria in RISA3D

There is also a Plot option tool that allows you to color code your members based on their deflection ratio. It doesn't give a pass / fail criteria. But, you will see visually pretty quickly which members have issues.

RE: Deflection Criteria in RISA3D

@Josh, that a feature I wasn't aware of. Are you talking about 3D or Floor? I'm not seeing it in 3D.

RE: Deflection Criteria in RISA3D

I'm interested in this as well.

RE: Deflection Criteria in RISA3D

Below is the picture of the plot option setting for color coding by deflection ratio. This is a 3D feature. Like I said, it doesn't give a pass / fail criteria. But, it does give you a good idea which members are having deflection issues and which ones are not.
