Creating Null Area Objects without the use of Frame Joints

Creating Null Area Objects without the use of Frame Joints

Creating Null Area Objects without the use of Frame Joints

(OP)
Right now I have a low rise builing with a sloped roof, and on this roof I am applying wind loading using the "Exposure from Area Objects" option. Although the roof has 3 sections on each side (created from the 4 frame sections, so 6 in total), I need to create null area objects that are different in size to correspond with the 'external pressure coefficients' that are stated in the NBCC 2010 code (so 4 areas on the roof in total).

I hope what I've described makes sense. Right now what I've done is drawing 'special joints' at midpoints of the roof areas and connected my area object using two frame joints and these two extra joints, but I believe this has resulted the joints acting as actual joints along the horizontal roof beam and introduced an unwanted moment release.

I've attached the SAP2000 file with my model in it. I hope someone knows what the heck I'm talking about and can help!

NOTE: What youll notice about the area objects on the roof is two layers of areas, the first for the wind loading and the second (the one that covers the whole of each side of the roof) for the Snow, Collateral, and Live loads.
