SWX 2016 Aligned text with vertical dimensions, and other preferences

SWX 2016 Aligned text with vertical dimensions, and other preferences

Preference where I work is for:
Aligned text on vertical dimensions
Use of 'DIA' after the dim value instead of phi symbol before
Use of R after dim value instead of before.

It's tiresome to fix all of these once I lay them down, but I can't find where to set the preference. Where's DIMSTYLE when you need it?

RE: SWX 2016 Aligned text with vertical dimensions, and other preferences

The first one you can fix by going to Document Properties, Dimensions, Linear, and choosing the Text Position. Save this in your Templates. The 2nd & 3rd can be dealt with by using Favorites, and saving them in a common file. Sylvia

RE: SWX 2016 Aligned text with vertical dimensions, and other preferences

The first item on your list is a preference/situational item, set it however you want.

The other two, however, violate ANSI/ISO. I wouldn't recommend replacing the standard practice with your own symbol set.

Aware of this, jgKRI, however this is preferred by the man who signs my timecard, who in turn prefers what the shop is used to, and is aligned with practice that predates greek letters, includes mahogany core forms stored over a dirt floor. In circumstances like this, the success rate of my advocacy efforts for national & international standards is 0/enough to learn.

Peaches. Thanks all.

RE: SWX 2016 Aligned text with vertical dimensions, and other preferences

Check out FAQ559-891: Can I modify my Hole Callouts to read something custom. It describes modifying the hole callouts which will cover a lot of the uses of the dia symbol. You should also be able to use dimension favorites to quickly switch other dimensions to your company standard.

p.s. I was amused by phrase "aligned with practice that predates greek letters".

Wasn't trying to be a jerk, I promise.

Your explanation is clear... unfortunately, I think we've all been there.

If you need drawings made to this 'format' a LOT, EEnd's link is the way to go. It will take you some time to set up the callout format file to do exactly what you want, but once you do it's set-it-and-forget-it.

Had to give you a star Moon. I was in that exact position a few jobs back (15 years) - and it's really challenging to do something 'right' versus 'tribal knowledge right.'
