Exhaust Gas Boiler.

Exhaust Gas Boiler.

Exhaust Gas Boiler.

(OP)
I am currently involved in a generation expansion project which we are planning to increase power generation by 5 MW ( Dual fuel engines; HFO and LFO). Is it feasible to include a exhaust boiler for primary steam generation for heating and plant operation? Since only one engine will be installed and besides the auxiliary boiler, which is only used for heating at startup, there will be no redundancy if the main boiler malfunctions or fails.

RE: Exhaust Gas Boiler.

Yes. You need to determine the requirement for the waste heat recovery boiler based on requirement for the energy recovered: building heating, heat recovery steam generator and turbine, hot water reserves, hot water or steam permanently needed (plus a backup heat supply!), electric power, feedwater preheat, process hot air or hot gas directly or burner air preheating.

5 MegWatt can be either very larger (compared to the requirement and what can be recovered), or it can be very little. Depends on what you need, and the cost of generating the needed hot fluid separately.
