Imported a dwg into a dft but not getting automatic dimensions on any new geometry

Imported a dwg into a dft but not getting automatic dimensions on any new geometry

(OP)
I opened a dwg file (created by someone else in Autocad) using solid edge. Everything looks fine including the dimensions that came with the original dwg.

I can sketch new geometry in the dft file but if I try to insert a dimension all I get is the dimension line but no automatic units like it usually will if I start from scratch in a dft file.

Any tips? What might I be doing wrong?

e.g. see the screenshot below. The hatched area was not there in the original dwg file. I added it. When I try to dimension it I get dimension lines but no numbers.

Check the font size, if your font size is at the typical 3 mm scale, but your features are hundreds of mm in size imported at 1:1 then it may just be that your font is too small to see.

Had this happen to me the other day when I was drawing out a plan for my back yard.
