DERATE A VESSEL OR A PIPE

DERATE A VESSEL OR A PIPE

(OP)
Guys,
I am currently working on a project here, Customer has a CS body Flame Arrestor.
They would like to de-rate that equipment to -45 Deg Cel.

Now correct me if iam wrong, When some one says de-rate, it generally means that to drop the rated temp. So that vessel or pipe can have a prolong life. As that give some extra leverage against corrosion.

In this case customer just want to drop units temp to -45 Deg Cel for their process requirement.

Now to add on on this CS can't go below -30 Deg Cel.

Can anyone please give their expert opinion in case iam overthinking this process.

thanks in advance

RE: DERATE A VESSEL OR A PIPE

Actually, the term is to re-rate to a lower temperature. In this case, you are dropping the minimum design metal temperature to -45 deg C. If there is concern for brittle fracture due to the lower design metal temperature this should be evaluated.
