Macomber Joist info (720VB)

(OP)
I have seen most, if not all of the Macomber information listed on SlideRuleEra's website but we've come across a joist designation (on a joist tag taken from a structure) that reads: 720VB . There might also be a 33 after that (i.e. 720VB 33).

The joist is 20 inches deep.

We've also Googled out the net but with no luck.

Does anyone have any old Macomber catalogs that might shed some light on what this is?

RE: Macomber Joist info (720VB)

I had one, and will look. But it may take a while to find it as it is probably in storage.

Only have run across one project with those joists in 38 years..

Having never before scanned through SlideRuleEras web site, and thus scanning a Macomber VBeam catalog, comparing a 20H and a 20I joist, could 720 be the resisting moment in k-in, of the actual joist provided, and 33 be the length of joist in feet?

It seems odd that the resisting moment would be stamped on the tag, but, the numbers are close.

Could 33 be simply the joist designation number?

Did you compare the tags of adjacent joists? Are they available?

Nothing more than guesses...

No luck. Sorry.

RE: Macomber Joist info (720VB)

I have the same catalog BSVBD referenced and agree it appears to be a 20I VB (V-Beam), based only on guesses for the numbers!
