Testing air bearings: Stiffness measurement

Testing air bearings: Stiffness measurement

Testing air bearings: Stiffness measurement

(OP)
I need some informaiton regarding the measurement of the stiffness curve of air/aerostatic bearings. The curve has load or force on the y axis and lift or air-film thickness on the x axis. What kind of test or mechanism/appratus is used to measure this relationship?

RE: Testing air bearings: Stiffness measurement

Basically, a known weight and a sensitive dial indicator should get you in the ballpark.

RE: Testing air bearings: Stiffness measurement

you will need more than weight and dial indicator to find acurate numbers. check this link http://oavco.com/faq/

RE: Testing air bearings: Stiffness measurement

You can get very accurate weights and dial indicators.
