Property/Stiffness Modifiers

Property/Stiffness Modifiers

Does RISA have a way to modify the properties/stiffness of elements? For instance, I need a plate that is calibrated to data. To do this I need to apply and adjustment to to some of the bending and mass properties.

Also, can different thicknesses be applied to membrane and plate bending?

I am fairly new to RISA. I know these things can be done in SAP2000 but I'm afraid this cannot be done in RISA.

RE: Property/Stiffness Modifiers

As far as material properties go. Yes you can create your own material and enter the appropriate properties.

And for plates, although I'm less familiar with them, I believe yes when you generate the plate, it asks how thick it is.

Thank you jayrod. Unfortunately that is not quite what I am looking for. I need to be able to create a plate that is ansitropic, ie. acts like a 0.0625" plate in-plane and a 0.5" plate out-of-plane. I also need to be able to modify bending stresses although I can do that in post.

Then I'm sure JoshPlum will be by soon to help you out. Have you tried asking RISA's tech support? They're fantastic.

RE: Property/Stiffness Modifiers

Internally, the membrane and plate bending formulations are independent. So, it would be technically possible for RISA to create this type of feature. But, it doesn't exist for plate elements in the current version of the program.

If, however, you use a concrete or masonry wall panel (which is just a automated meshing of plate elements) then you can apply a different Icracked factor for in-plane vs out of plane behavior.

Thanks for the reply Josh. It's a real bummer that has been abstracted out of the program, it is going to make my life miserable for a number of projects.
