Butterfly control valves

Butterfly control valves

Butterfly control valves

(OP)
We have two ductile iron water transmission mains transferring raw river water with low to medium sediment up to the treatment plant. The pipe diameter is 1600mm.

The two pipelines each need to incorporate a control valve to limit the flow to 3.646 m3/s

For this size of pipeline, has anyone any experience of using butterfly valves as a control valve?

I will check the cv or kv values and the % open etc. Just concerned about any abrasion erosion issues to consider.

Regards
John

RE: Butterfly control valves

Look at slurry valves.

It is a capital mistake to theorise before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts. (Sherlock Holmes - A Scandal in Bohemia.)

RE: Butterfly control valves

While attractive from a cost standpoint, butterfly valves offer poor control performance and are not recommended as a control valves on raw water. Look into the use of a cone valve.
