effect of repeated operation cycles (pressurizing & depressurizing) on gas pipeline life

(OP)
Hello all,

referring to point of gas pipeline operation cycles , is there any code managing or talking about max number of pressurizing and depressurizing cycles to avoid fatigue effects on pipeline material ??

thank you in advance

RE: effect of repeated operation cycles (pressurizing & depressurizing) on gas pipeline life

Yes. The UK codes PD8010 and IGEM TD/1 have graphs and calculations for number of cycles. This varies with the cyclic stress being experienced. The higher the cyclic stress the lower the number of cycles.

Most transmission pipelines though will last more than 40 years.
