Help With Plate Buckling

Help With Plate Buckling

Help With Plate Buckling

(OP)
Hi there, I am trying to figure out if this plate will buckle under a 40kN and 50kN eccentric load. The eccentricities are causing moments. How would I go about determining if the plate will buckle or not? Any help will be very appreciated.

RE: Help With Plate Buckling

The plate being that shape, I would think a normal Euler buckling check would suffice as far as buckling goes. Probably what would likely control (over Euler) would be a allowable of (say) 0.6*Fy for compression and bending. A combined stress check (i.e. bending and compression) would give you your closest ratio to unity.

RE: Help With Plate Buckling

The plate will fail under the 40kN load alone due to bending, not buckling.
