Seattle Structural Engineering Fees

Seattle Structural Engineering Fees

(OP)
To any Structural Engineers who perform residential engineering work in the Seattle area:

What hourly rates do you charge?

For new medium-to-high end custom homes, what is your typical total fee (including CA) vs total construction costs?

Work on existing homes is much more variable, but what would your total fee (including CA) be for, say, adding a story on top of an existing bungalow?

I am new to the area and want to make sure my fees are close to going rates.

Thanks!

RE: Seattle Structural Engineering Fees

I don't work in the Seattle area, but I would never advise trying to work a renovations or modifications/addition residential project for a total fixed fee. Give the client an estimated fee (not a guaranteed maximum) based on a very tightly-defined SOW. Anything that deviates from that SOW requires extra time from you, and extra fee from them.

Thanks. Yes, certainly CA would be an hourly add-service. I was more looking for what total fees ended up being typically,

rather than a fixed fee to quote a client.
