Overwriting subassembly by creating constraint

Overwriting subassembly by creating constraint

Overwriting subassembly by creating constraint

(OP)

Hello,

Dear colleagues you are my last hope. I work in CATIA v5 not too long but the issue is common and bothering me.

Situation:
I create two subassemblies products: subassy1 and subassy2. Then create third, assembly product: assy. I insert subassy1 into the assy and fix it. Then I insert subassy2 and create some constraint with subassy1. Every time the save management indicate that by creating mutual constraint in some magic way I modified subassy2.
Please tell me what could be the reason of overwriting subassy2 by just creating some constraint?

Thanks for all comments.

RE: Overwriting subassembly by creating constraint

Are you making sure the active product (highlighted in blue in the tree) is "assy"?

Also, make sure subassy2 is updated before dropping it in "assy" and creating a constraint with subassy1

Yeah,
I can imagine how my question may sound. But I have such hard time with this issue and I don't know where the core of this problem is.

Yes, I have active product (the top one=assy) when creating constraints. More, I have anything up to date before assembly.

Can I think about it as a bug, should I contact with techsupport of my licence in workplace? What is strange nobody indicate such problem, so probably I am doing something wrong. What kind of details do you need to diagnose it?

RE: Overwriting subassembly by creating constraint

What release and service pack are you using?

Is it an extremely large file size that might be causing a problem?

Tahnk you for your interest @drewmumaw

Version: CATIA v5-2006 PLM express B24

Strictly speaking I have build subassemblies with standard components produced in our company - large product with multiple parts, when I try to constraint some of it's geometry with client model which is fixed not intentionally I overwriting subassembly just by adding some constraint.

Maybe this would help: I am not sure but could it have some relation to the local coordinates systems of each suassembly? I examined one thing, when open subassembly and measure coordinates I have one set of points. Then when I put subassembly into the assembly and positioning subassembly in respect to client model by adding constraints, the subassembly has now a new and different set of coordinates. Maybe it could be the part of problem. Maybe in some way, by positioning subassembly within assembly product I somehow create modifications of subassembly's coordinate system???
