Component behavior within parametric model

Component behavior within parametric model

(OP)
Hi,

I am playing around with a sketch based model for a part family. I am attempting to split the model which is currently based on features into separate components. I have split all of the features into components however they seem to lose their dependence on the expressions and measures in the parent file sketches. Ie if I create my part family and amend overall lengths and widths the components do not react.

(I have looked at using wave links however this seems to fall over when it comes to the part family aspect.)

I have tried to re-apply the measures from the component files to the sketches in the parent file and it lets me select curves in the parent file sketches to measure to however the 'ok' button is greyed out.

When I split into components the features in question are moved to the component part and a copy of their driving sketch is also moved, is there a way to ensure that this copy of the driving sketch is made associative to the sketch it is a copy of in the parent file?

Hopefully I am being clear here. What I am looking for is a part family, driven by a sketch which is controlled by expressions, the part family should be made up of components so that I can make exploded views in drafting (don't think you can do this with features?).

The end goal here is a part family assembly for example a tennis racket which is always made up of the same parts ie grip, frame, strings. Drawings will be automatically created as part family members are created.

Hope this makes sense. Attached is a screenshot.

Thanks,
Dan
