About MULTICOPY

(OP)
Every now and then you run into something really obscure. This is one of them. I was trying to look into MULTICOPY as a way to make multiple duplicates of a single instance. I want the "copies" to not be editable as discrete objects, just duplicated various places about the drawing. MULTICOPY seemed like a likely candidate, but I couldn't find anything on it in the command reference. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
C.F.

RE: About MULTICOPY

Dear cfee,
There is no original command named MULTICOPY, but you can use the "Multiple" option in the COPY command. If you need the duplicated elements not to be editable, you should use blocks instead of simple elements.

Now, it is 2004. Are there any MULTICOPY Lisp & command that I can copy any object/text without hitting "m" for multiple copy in COPY command? It is tendeous (sp?) to remember to look for "m" key and press it.
Your quick reply will be greatly appreciated!!!

RE: About MULTICOPY

Hello cfee
I have an alternate suggestion to blocks.  Create another layer and set it current.  Draw your object and use the array command to make multicopies of the object.  Go back to layer manager and select the padlock icon.  This layer will now be locked but will remain visible and objects on that layer cannot be edited.  Note that new objects can be added to a locked layer.  Hope this helps - John

RE: About MULTICOPY

I'd look into the MINSERT command to insert multiple copies of one block.  They go in as a single entity.  You can change the all occurances of the things by double clicking on it.  You can't explode it.  It only works for regular arrays of the item.

RE: About MULTICOPY

Hi AutoCAD2004,

it seems you have used the keyword search. One star! But sometimes it's better to start a new thread.

Of course You can copy any object/text without hitting "m".

1. Use "mcopy" from the Express Tools
or
2. Create a new button. Macro: ^C^C_select;\_copy;_p;;_m;
