FixTogether

(OP)
I have Bracket Assembly with 6 components:
• 1 Bracket
• 2 Studs
• 3 Nuts.
There are two constrains: Fixed.1 (for the yellow Bracket and FixTogether.2, for all components).
I do not get the meaning of the FixTogether in this Product: All the components (except the Bracket) can be moved!..................
Could somebody explain me this dilemma?
And, what is the alternative (except using the Fix constrain) for having all the components constrained (no move)?

Thanks!

RE: FixTogether

check online doc, there is a difference between Fix and Fix in space...

I got this.
Thanks.

Since we're here.........
I have another question: The nuts and bolts are dumb bodies.
I tried to constrain them using the "Coincident" constrain, but these bodies are nor available for this selection.
On the other hand, all the holes in the Bracket accept the coincident constrain.
How would you align the bolts and nuts with holes in the Bracket?.......

Thanks!

RE: FixTogether

create dummy line and plane if you cant select the geometry. Keep them in hide.

the other solution is to rebuild your solid so the canonical form exist.

We had to create cylindrical surface and use sew surface on bad import stupid solid. then isolate solid and delete surface and construction...

I understand that I could create create an Axis on those nuts and bolts, but they are parts from supplier, I am not allowed to modify them.
Let's say, I create axis on these nuts and bolts. I use those axis for constraining. Save the assembly (but not saving the components)and close it. Next time when I open the assembly the constrains will be out of date!.....

RE: FixTogether

ok so first talk to the supplier. if you are supposed to provide assembly with constraints on part that are missing canonical information they need to know and should guide you to appropriate solution.

you could create dummy part with geometry for constraints and have the part fix together with supplier part. You ll have to remove those parts from any BOM management.

supplier should correct his standard parts...

RE: FixTogether

This is a good place to use Publications to identify constraining geometry on standard parts. Publications make it very easy to swap out standard parts (replace a short screw with a long one).

You could ask the supplier if they can add that (they may or may not be able to do this based on the CAD system they use). Or, ask your company administrator to add the Publications. By doing it in-house, 1) the publications have common names, and 2) they have been approved by your company.

RE: FixTogether

referring back to the original post:

The Fix Together constraint is a way to "group" a series of parts so they all move together if one of the parts is repositioned.

The Fix constraint is different.

Thanks Jack!

RE: FixTogether

we never work on customer's model. a model stored separately. in this way it always stays unchanged. i think this requirement comes from such biggies like Boeing. just save a model in different location and do any change to it.
