Submersible, Mixed Flow Column Pump installation

Submersible, Mixed Flow Column Pump installation

Submersible, Mixed Flow Column Pump installation

(OP)
Good afternoon,

For a submersible pump located in a 1.1m diameter column approximately 11m depth into a wetwell (river intake structure)the column above pump floor level incorporates a flanged tee discharge. (1100mm to 800mm)

From the discharge flange, there is a non-return valve followed by an actuated butterfly valve. After the butterfly valve, the pipe connects to a common manifold 1400mm diameter. (A total of 9 pumps connect to the manifold, 7 duty and 2 standby)

As the temperature can be up to 50 deg C, with a minimum of 5 deg C, I am concerned about thermal expansion transferring unacceptable loads onto the pump column 'sole plate' (and thence the pump house floor)and also onto the common manifold which is secured on concrete saddles and is in effect an anchor point.

Is it normal to include an expansion bellows of some sort to eliminate the forces?

Regards
John

John,

Why don't you post a sketch of what is proposed.

yes it is, ensure they are of a "restrained" type so as not to impose high thrust loads onto the installation.

Thanks Artisi,

could you recommend a supplier or a link to a restrained type?

I'm in the wrong part of the world to name a local supplier for you, suggest you contact a major pipeline equipment supplier and enquire with them.
