Dynamic load calculation for PD Pump

Dynamic load calculation for PD Pump

Dynamic load calculation for PD Pump

(OP)
Hi Guys,

I have few doubts and new your advise. Am referring to PD Pumps (Internal Gear)

There was this question from my customer which am not getting a satisfactory reply from the manufacturer.

1. What does dynamic load imply to PD pumps?
2. How to calculate Dynamic load?

Thanks in advance.

RE: Dynamic load calculation for PD Pump

Usually means the pulsation of the flow or the cyclical flow.

Gear pumps tend to be quite smooth so maybe the level of variation is low.

But maybe you or your client is referring to a different "dynamic load".

Difficult to know.

Vendor data is normally the only way to get any such loads.

Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

RE: Dynamic load calculation for PD Pump

Equipment has static load and dynamic loads. Static loads are those forces when the equipment is not operating. Dynamic loadings are those forces that occur when the equipment is operating.

Bimr,
Noted. But how do you calculate the dynamic load for PD pumps?

LittleInch,
There is no clear representation / requirement from my customer about dynamic load. I am not sure if this is used for centrifugal pumps either.

RE: Dynamic load calculation for PD Pump

Then ask him or her what they mean. Without a much better question, no one can answer this.

RE: Dynamic load calculation for PD Pump

The pump manufacturer calculates the dynamic loading for the application.

Hi Bimr,
Is there any formula / handbook which we could refer to calculate the dynamic load?

RE: Dynamic load calculation for PD Pump

Gear pumps generate a pressure ripple that corresponds to number of teeth on the gears x the angular velocity of the input.

Measurement of the system pressures will tell the level of these peaks and also the troughs in this ripple.

Use that min and max pressure to determine the cyclic torque applied to the pump.

Torque is pressure x displacement / 20 PI

RE: Dynamic load calculation for PD Pump

HPost, don't you mean 2 PI, not 20 PI?

Ted

RE: Dynamic load calculation for PD Pump

No, I mean 20 PI.

RE: Dynamic load calculation for PD Pump

Hpost, OK. I was thinking imperial units.

Ted
