groove angle

groove angle

groove angle

(OP)
When the project specification states that WPS shall be requalified when a decrease in groove angle more than 10 degree.so please advise which one of the below is the right way to qualify a WPS:
1-PQR using single V with groove angle 50 degree (to cover 70 degree butt weld and branch connection with 45 degree)
2-PQR-A using single V with groove angle 70 degree
PQR-B branch connection with 45 degree

RE: groove angle

First, what is the production groove angle being used?
Second, once this groove angle is identified use it for WPS qualification and avoid any 10 degree deviation. Groove angle is not an essential variable for WPS qualification, so this specific requirement is above and beyond ASME Section IX.

RE: groove angle

(OP)
the sit conditions will be as below:
1- 70 degree groove angle for butt weld
2- 45 degree groove angle for branch

RE: groove angle

Qualify a single WPS with the two groove angles stated above under weld joint configuration. If you deviate 10 degrees, another WPS must be qualified IF that is your client's specification.
